No knitting here today. My wrist was getting better, but one heavy grocery bag killed it again. I really want to update this blog at least once a week, so until my wrist get better I'll write something other than knitting...
It was a couple weeks ago. I found out what "TGIF" means. And I'm amazed...by my wild imagination.
I think I've been wondering what TGIF means for more than 4 years, but somehow I never looked it up in a dictionary. I had sensed that "TGIF" had some cheerful connotation, so at first I assumed it was related to receiving gifts. "Thanks for the GIFts"... The sentence fits perfectly, doesn't it? But the problem was, often it made no sense (of course). So I made another guess. Maybe TGIF was a contracted form of TGI Friday's (the restaurant), and it meant "I'll go out to eat tonight!" (but not necessarily to TGI Friday's.) It was still a bit odd, but made much more sense than Thanks for the GIFts.
Now that I know the meaning, I think my second guess was not so bad... I guessed the original word the other way around, but at least I picked out the same word. :-)
Anyway, thank God it's Friday... Have a nice weekend.

I'm knitting this raglan sweater with the hourglass sweater (the one in the book "Last-Minute Knitted Gifts") in mind. I made a little bit of shape at the waist, and 'll make the sleeves straight or slightly wider at the cuffs. It is for my mother. I know she will love the color, but I'm not sure about the style of the sweater... I kind of think that she might be happy to have the yarn without knitting it.
I wanted to finish the sweater by the end of this month, but with my right wrist beginning to feel strange again, perhaps I won't make it. Maybe the pain is because of the yarn, which is silk, which doesn't have elasticity. This wrist problem is starting to really bother me, because it's not as if I knit several hours a day! I wonder if there is a way to train my wrist and make it stronger.
The sock in progress is knitted with Fortissima Socka Cotton Color. I really shouldn't have chosen another inelastic yarn to knit, but couldn't resist to try it out.
By the way, I don't know if anybody is interested, but I've added links for Avril and Tsumugi Silk yarn to the previous post. Just FYI.
I went back to Japan for a few weeks in March. I attended my brother's wedding and spent a good time with my husband's and my families. These are some pictures from the vacation, taken by my husband. Scary looking tree is a famous weeping cherry tree in Kyoto. It's really beautiful when it has some flowers, but unfortunately we were too early for that.

I didn't have much time for myself, but managed to buy some yarn.

It's not even half of what I intended to buy, because I got sick on the "yarn shopping" day and couldn't go shopping... but I thought it was meant to be when I got home and saw boxes full of my yarn stash. I really don't need any more yarn.
I'm knitting a simple top-down raglan sweater with my souvenir yarn now. It is knitting up nicely! The yarn is from "Avril." Avril sells their yarn to Habu textiles, and I think this yarn is the same as "Tsumugi Silk" at Habu.

I'll get back to the Kai sweater after I finish this sweater.
